Dr. Miller To Speak At Cancer Support Meeting
Dr. Celeste Miller will be talking about cancer facts and the myths about cancer found on the internet at the Memphis Cancer Support Group meeting on Tuesday, April 30, at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Scotland County Health Department. The act of consuming at least five daily servings of fruits and vegetables can reduce the risk of cancer by 20 percent. This may sound like a lot, but serving sizes are smaller than most people think.
What constitutes a serving? A fruit serving equals one medium apple, orange or peach; one small banana; two medium plums or tangerines; 1/3 cantaloupe; 15 small grapes or cherries; 8 large strawberries; ľ cup dried fruit; or Ĺ cup diced raw, cooked or canned fruit. A vegetable serving equals one cup of raw leafy green vegetables, such as pepper, carrots, cauliflower or green beans, raw or cooked, ĺ cup vegetable juice; one medium tomato; one medium potato; or five - six asparagus spears.
