Rec-Plex Grand Opening To Be Held March 9
The big day is approaching for the Scotland County Rec-Plex. The Scotland County Community Fitness Center Board will be hosting a grand opening at the facility on March 9th. The center will open to the public that day at 10:00 a.m. with a special ceremony and dedication scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
"Bring the entire family out to see what we have to offer," said committee chairperson Judy Campbell. "We hope that folks will see everything the fitness center has available and the memberships will start to roll in."
Board members will be on hand to answer guests' questions and special demonstrations of the weight lifting and cardiovascular equipment will be available.
The new facility features a walk/jog track. Users travel one mile for every 22 laps completed. Other exercise equipment includes two treadmills, two stationary bicycles, one power rower and two ellipticals.
A weight room at the site features 17 Nautilus weight machines as well as a variety of free weights.
In addition to the workout option, guests at the Rec-Plex also have a game room to enjoy. Members can play pool, ping pong or foosball.
While parents are using the facility they can keep the children entertained in the kiddie room where there are toys as well as a television and VCR.
Memberships for the facility are currently on sale. A one-year family membership costs $275 while a single membership is $200. The student/senior discounted rate is $125 annually. There are numerous other options for payment including six-month, three-month, and one-month memberships. A daily pass is available for $5.
Members receive a "smart card" that provides the user access to the facility between the hours of 5:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. daily. The site is monitored by surveillance cameras as well as a security system.
The facility's community room is available for rent for $35 per day. It features seating for large groups as well as a kitchen area for food preparation and distribution. Call 465-2999 to make reservations.
