Dairy Day Program To Be At Memphis V.F.W. February 21

Got Milk? If you want some plan on attending the annual Memphis Dairy Day program to be held Thursday, February 21 at the Memphis V.F.W.

The program will run from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. with lunch provided courtesy of several sponsoring businesses. There is no cost to attend and all dairymen are invited.

The program will include Leon McIntyre, University Extension Agronomist from Linn County discussing "What's New in Forage Varieties" and David Hardin, University Extension Veterinarian from Columbia talking about "Johnes Disease - Is Your Herd at Risk?"

After lunch Barry Stevens, Extension Dairy Specialist from Columbia will talk to producers about how to "Make Quality Silage" and James Coomer, Extension Dairy Nutrition Specialist from Columbia will discuss "Developing Your Heifers". The Dairy Outlook will be discussed as well in the morning.

"This program has been extremely successful for many years and we've tried to continue that this year" said Joe Koenen, Farm Management Specialist with University Outreach & Extension. "We've given dairymen more time during the day to visit with those businesses that have booths due to a request for that in the past."

Joe has taken over the coordination of the Dairy Day program since the retirement of Eldon Dilworth (who did it for several years) from Extension.

"We feel like we have another top notch program," said Joe. "The program would not be possible without the help and financial support of our sponsors."

Sponsors for this year include:

Scotland County Livestock Market; Miller Dairy Sales, Ltd.; Cantril Feed and Grain; Fleer Feed, Inc.; Helmuth Repair, Inc.; Memphis Farm & Home; Citizen's Bank of Edina; Feed Consulting Services; Bank Midwest; KABA/Select Sires; SEMEX USA; Firstar Bank of Memphis; Smith Brothers Farm Supply, Inc.; Midwestern Bio-Ag; S & D Dairy Supply; NEMO Feed & Supply; and Commodity Specialists Co.

Milk and cheese are provided that day through the courtesy of Prairie Farms and Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) with cups and napkins provided by Farm Credit Services. Keith's Caf of Memphis will furnish the meal.
