Rec-Plex Hires Consultant To Prepare Fitness Center
With the Scotland County Rec-Plex facility taking shape the governing board for the fitness center took another step forward with the hiring of a new consultant to staff the facility this spring.
The board unanimously approved the hiring of Jody Lane of Lancaster. Lane will handle membership sales and also will work on a business plan and marketing projects for the facility while continuing to help the fitness center to develop new programs to offer the community. Lane added that he will begin working on a policies and procedures handbook for the boards consideration for the center. If approved these regulations will govern members and the facility usage.
Lane, a commercial recreation major at Southeast Missouri State University in Springfield, will likely hold the position until April. He has already committed to an internship with the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings baseball team in Harlingen, TX. Lane will serve as the business operations manager for the independent league team that plays in the Texas-Louisiana League.
Lane started work at the Rec-Plex January 17. The preliminary work will be in finishing painting the interior of the center and arranging the equipment and other materials so the site can be opened. He plans to visit area businesses and merchants to begin a membership drive and make the public aware of what the facility has to offer.
Membership flyers are available at the center or at the newspaper office and area banks as well as other businesses in town. Lane stated he hopes to keep fairly regular 9-5 business hours at the center to answer questions and to accept membership dues.
The fitness center will offer a variety of membership options to offer users the best option for their financial fit. One-year memberships will be sold for $275 for a family, $200 for an individual or $125 for a student (K-12) or senior citizen (62 or older). The center also offers, six-month, three-month and one-month memberships as well as one week and even one day passes. The daily use fee will be $5.
Jody is the son of Bruce and Jill Lane of Schuyler County.
