Sheriff's Department Traffic Stops Net Pair Of DWI Arrests
The Scotland County Sheriff's Department took two unsafe drivers off the roadways when they made a pair of Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) arrests last week.
Officers stopped Cynthia M. Burkart, 40, of Gorin, at 10:02 p.m. January 7. She was ticketed for DWI and for failure to dim headlights. Burkart was taken into custody on a 12-hour hold for detoxification before being released. She was assigned a January 22 court date at 9:00 a.m.
The second traffic stop was a bit more eventful as a passenger in the vehicle became unruly.
Robert A. Dundee, 25, of Gorin was stopped at 4:48 p.m. January 9. He was ticketed for DWI, failure to display valid plates on a motor vehicle, failure to maintain financial responsibility, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
He was taken to the Scotland County Jail where he was held until he posted a $500 cash bond.
James W. Elmore, 60, a passenger in the vehicle, was charged with two counts of third degree assault on a law enforcement officer. He also was charged with discharging a firearm from a moving motor vehicle and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
He was taken into custody and held at the Scotland County Jail until a $2,500 cash bond was posted.
Both men were assigned January 22 court dates.
