Two Lady Tigers Earn All District, All Conference Softball Accolades

A pair of Scotland County Lady Tigers softball players earned both All-District and All-Conference honors during what proved to be a disappointing 2001 season. The good news for SCR-I is both players will be back next season to help lead a young Lady Tigers squad to improve on the 6-12 mark this season.

Sara Eggleston

Pitcher Sara Eggleston earned All-District honors and was named to the Tri-Rivers Conference First Team. The sophomore hurler pitched 122 innings this year and compiled a 1.32 earned run average. She faced 444 batters and limited the opposition to just 98 hits, a .221 batting average against. Eggleston walked just 34 batters all year while striking out 99.

She also did the job at the plate. After a slow start, Eggleston came on to lead the team with a .380 batting average and a team high 19 base hits. Even more impressive was the fact she only struck out three times all year long.

Joining Eggleston on the All-District Team was infielder Meagan Fromm. After starting the season at shortstop, Fromm made the switch to first base midway through the season. Despite the change in defensive positions, her bat was a constant in the middle of the Lady Tigers line-up where she batted third or fourth all season long. The junior was second on the team with a .296 batting average and 16 base hits. Fromm topped the team with 13 runs scored and 12 stolen bases.

Fromm earned Second Team All-Conference honors.

Meagan Fromm

Conference champions Putnam County placed six girls on the all-conference teams after finishing 17-6 overall and 7-0 in league play. Conference runner up Clark County matched that number with six award winners. The Lady Indians were 14-5 on the year with a 6-1 conference mark.

North Shelby and Knox County tied for third in the conference with 4-3 marks. The Lady Eagles were 16-6 overall while North Shelby was 14-7. Milan finished fifth in the league with a 2-5 record after going 5-12 overall. Schuyler and Scotland County both finished with 1-6 marks in the league. SCR-I went 6-12 while the Lady Rams were 7-10.

Kristen Olmstead of Putnam County was named the Leagues Most Valuable Player. Mike Schmidli was named the Coach of the Year.
