Lady Tigers Seventh Grade Squad Wraps Up Successful Season With 10-4 Mark
After a tough start the Scotland County seventh grade girls finished out the year on the roll to conclude the season with a 10-4 record.
The Lady Tigers opened the year with a 35-3 loss at Clark County.
The girls rebounded with a 20-14 win over Schuyler County November 5. Sharail Barton led the Tigers with six points. Lauren Grogan and Jessica Hayes each had four.
Kirksville gave SCR-I its second loss of the year 34-9. Laura Duley had five points and Grogan had four.
SCR-I turned it around with a 22-17 win against Knox County November 8. Barton and Hayes had six points each. Kelsey Caldwell and Trisha Harvey each pitched in with two.
The team moved to 3-2 with a 22-14 victory against Gorin. Duley and Barton had six points. Hayes and Laura Aylward had four.
The wins kept rolling as the Lady Tigers beat Kirksville 17-12. Duley had six and Caldwell had four in the win.
Putnam County was the next on the list as Scotland County defeated the Lady Midgets 18-8 behind five points from Barton. Angela Graham pitched in with two points as did Grogan and Caldwell.
The team went to 6-2 with a 16-13 victory against Schuyler County. Grogan and Duley each had four points, while Hayes, Harvey, Barton and Caldwell finished with two.
A 30-15 victory against Fox Valley improved Scotland County to 7-2. Grogan topped all scorers with 10 points. Barton, Hayes, and Graham each added four while Julie Triplett and P.J. Brown each pitched in with two.
Thirty points came back-to-back for the Lady Tigers as they beat Putnam County 30-10 on November 26 to improve to 8-2. Hayes had a season-high nine points to pace the scoring attack. Barton, Harvey and Duley each added four.
Scotland County won its seventh straight contest with a 22-13 victory over Fox Valley December 1. Duley led the way with eight points. Hayes, Barton and Caldwell each added four.
The streak came to an end December 4 with a 33-11 loss to the Canton eighth grade team. Graham had four points to lead SCR-I.
The Lady Tigers answered the defeat with a 23-14 victory over Marion County 23-14. Grogan topped the scoring with 10 points and Hayes added eight.
Clark County ended the Lady Tigers season on a down note with a 42-10 defeat but it could not sour a very successful 10-4 season for the young ladies.
