SCR-I JV Football Team Wins Finale 20-6 Over Raiders
The Scotland County junior varsity football team finished the season on a high note with a 20-6 victory over North Shelby October 15. SCR-I finished the year 3-4.
The Raiders actually opened the game with the first score as Trey Million put North Shelby ahead on a two-yard touchdown run to make the score 6-0.
"In the first half we had trouble stopping Million, a 5'9", 200-pound sophomore," said Coach Ken Cross. "He was a load to stop. In the second half we assigned linebacker Tim Robinson to shadow #34, and Tim and the rest of the defense did a great job stopping him."
Scotland County took care of the rest of scoring, tallying in each of the final three quarters of the contest.
Jarred Shelley on a 20-yard touchdown run in the second period. Danny Roach then connected with Drew Holt for the two-point conversion to put the Tigers on top 8-6.
The Tigers added to the advantage in the third period when Eric Long took a screen pass from Roach and went more than 40 yards for the score. The two-point conversion was stopped, leaving the score at 14-6.
The final tally came in the fourth period when Joe Talbert rambled through the Raiders defense for a 71-yard touchdown to make the final score 20-6.
"The team showed their best effort of the year in the second half to shut out North Shelby and to score the two unanswered TDs," said Cross.
