Lady Tigers Drop Conference Opener To Indians 1-0
The hard luck continued for the Scotland County softball team September 10 as the Lady Tigers fell to Clark County 1-0 despite arguably playing a better game.
SCR-I simply could not come up with the big hit needed to get things rolling. The Lady Tigers had scoring opportunities in the second, third and fourth frames when they had no fewer than two base runners in each inning.
Clark County on the other hand took advantage of its only true scoring opportunity. That came in the second inning when a single was followed up by a fielding miscue that allowed the lone run of the game to score.
SCR-I hurler Sara Eggleston only allowed one other hit the rest of the game. She allowed just two hits and walked none while striking out three.
The Lady Tigers had runners at first and second in the second inning after Eggleston singled and stole second base.
Singles by Brandi Mallett and right fielder Rebecca Consbrock helped SCR-I load the bases in the third inning with just one out but SCR-I was unable to score.
Scotland County pounded out six hits including a 2-3 performance at the plate by designated hitter Valerie Crawford.
The loss came in the Lady Tigers conference opener, dropping SCR-I to 0-1 in league play and 2-5 overall.
