U.S. Modified Tour Making First Ever Trip To Scotland County Raceway For Special Benefit

The United States Modified Touring Series will wrap up its special Darrell Vice Benefit Super Modified Week Saturday, August 4 at the Scotland County Raceway.

The special week got underway Tuesday July 31 at the Farmer City Raceway in Farmer City, IL. The USMTS scheduled five straight nights of racing at five different tracks for the benefit.

Darrell Vice a 12-year-old boy from Oquawka, IL was tortured when burglars broke into his home and stabbed his father more than sixty times.

The criminals had tied Darrell to his father at the outset of the crime, meaning Darrell was struck numerous times during the attack. Darrell was struck in the spinal cord, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. He also was stabbed in the right hand numerous times.

Darrell was on hand with the USMTS at two of the races this week. The racing began Tuesday July 31 at the Farmer City Raceway in Farmer City, IL then moved to the Knox County Fair in Knoxville, IL where Darrell will be on hand. Then on Thursday the series will move to the Aledo Raceway in Aledo, IL. On Friday the series will make its second appearance at the Quincy Raceway in Quincy, IL.

The last night of racing will be the first ever appearance for the USMTS at SCR in Memphis.

All races will pay $2000 to win and $200 to start. All drivers that fail to qualify will get $75 tow money. USMTS will donate the proceeds from the event to Darrell including money from sponsorships, $2 from every adult that enters the grandstands, $5 from each t-shirt sold, a percentage of the 50/50 money, and will also give Darrell $5 from every car in the pit area. USMTS is hoping to generate more than $10,000 for these five days of racing.

Darrell had no insurance and the USMTS knows that the racing world is some of the greatest fans in the world and will help this young boy out by supporting one of these races. USMTS will be giving away a bicycle each night to some lucky boy or girl in the grandstands. A very good field of cars is expected for these races.
