Hilda Iva Cressy, 104 years 11 months and six days old, passed away at the Schuyler County Nursing Home in Queen City, MO, on December 18, 2001.
The daughter of Greenville Allen and Marietta (Adams) Drummond, she was born in Lancaster, MO on December 24, 1896.
She grew up in Lancaster, MO and graduated from the high school there with the class of 1916. Due to her small size, she was absent from school quite a bit, so was not there on the day the school burned in 1906.
Hilda's mother died when Hilda was 14 and Hilda remembered riding in a wagon to the Walker Chapel Cemetery for her burial. Her father then married Ella Sarah Hollowell.
Following her graduation from high school, Hilda lived for a time in Denver, CO and Nebraska, where she was married to Frank Cressy. They later moved to Chicago, IL, where Hilda worked as a head sales person for the Goldblatts Department Store until her retirement. She returned to Lancaster, MO to care for her step-mother and made her home in the Dr. Potter house which she had purchased. She remained in that home until her health made it necessary to move to the Schuyler County Nursing Home on February 4, 1996.
She was a member of the Lancaster United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death besides her parents, by a step-mother, Ella Drummond; two sisters, Mae Drummond and Cora Plummer; one niece, Veta Dandy and a nephew, Ezra Plummer.
A niece, Vivian Jordan of Lancaster, MO, survives her.
Graveside services were held at the Arni Memorial Cemetery in Lancaster, MO. Frank Pickens, pastor of the United Methodist Church officiated. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home, Lancaster, MO.
