Maudie Marie Kerby, the daughter of George and Emma (Gosser) Crump was born near Lancaster, MO on July 2, 1907 and died October 23, 2001 in Loch Haven Nursing Home, Macon, MO, at the age of 94 years.

She married Bert M. Kerby on February 20, 1927, at Bloomfield, IA. He preceded her in death in 1976.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; one sister, Leona Langdon; two brothers, Hollis Crump and Archie Crump; and one infant grandson, Tye Patrick.

Surviving are five children, Helen Shepherd and husband, Ronald of Fisher, IL, Harold (Bud) Kerby and wife, Yvonne of Lancaster, MO, Maxine Brunk and husband, Edwin of Tarkio, MO, Terry Kerby and wife, Jeannie of Chandler, AZ, and Joe Kerby and wife, Jeda of Kirksville, MO; 16 grandchildren, Nicholas Shepherd and wife, Dorita of Las Vegas, NV, Paul Shepherd and wife, Val of Fisher, IL, Rhonda Keith and husband, John of Fisher, IL, Lieutenant Colonel Jerry Kerby and wife, LaWanna of Niceville, FL, Dr. Jeffrey Kerby and wife, Dominique of San Antonio, TX, Dr. Douglas Brunk and wife, Leslie of Grand Island, NE, Louis Brunk and wife, Lisa of Farragut, IA, Pamela Nance and husband, Timothy of Tarkio, MO, Brad Kerby and wife, Shay of Las Vegas, NV, Charie Estrella and husband, Richard of Colorado Springs, CO, Chief Master Sergeant Kenneth Kerby and wife, Denise of Las Vegas, NV, Patti Hess and husband, Jesse of Severn, MD, Chuck Kerby and wife, Mary of Bentonville, AR, Brian Kerby and wife, Michelle of Kirksville, MO, Brett Kerby and wife, Wendy of Brashear, MO, and Scott Kerby and wife, Sara of St. Louis, MO; 40 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond Crump and wife, Ann of Lancaster, MO; and Roy Crump of Moline, IL; one brother-in-law, Edward Kerby of Glenwood, MO and many nieces and nephews.

She was a 50-year member and past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, She was a member of the Lancaster Christian Church.

Maudie spent her entire life in Schuyler County, MO graduating with the class of 1926. She enjoyed working outside the home and was a trusted and sought after employee. She was a teller at Schuyler County State Bank; a Deputy Circuit Clerk of Schuyler County, and office manager at Tri-County Electric Cooperative from where she retired in 1972 following 19 years of employment. For a short time after her retirement, she worked in the library at Schuyler R-1 High School, then later took evening and weekend trouble calls for Tri-County Electric.

Services were held October 27, 2001 in Lancaster Christian Church, Lancaster, MO with Pastor Rob Green officiating. Music was furnished by Cole Tippett, vocalist, and Maureen Watkins, organist. Body bearers were Paul Shepherd, Lt. Colonel Jerry Kerby, Chuck Kerby, Dr. Douglas Brunk, Louis Brunk, and Dr. Jeffrey Kerby. Honorary bearers were Brett Kerby, Scott Kerby, Brad Kerby, Nick Shepherd, Brian Kerby, and Chief Master Sergeant Ken Kerby. Burial was in Arni Memorial Cemetery, Lancaster, MO, under the direction of Norman Funeral Home, Lancaster, MO.
