Rebecca Anne (Beckie) Aldridge Garrison, 96, formerly of Arbela, MO, previously residing in Clark County Care Center, Kahoka, MO, for the past nine years, passed away October 14, 2001 at the Keokuk Area Hospital, Keokuk, IA.
She was born January 13, 1905 near Wilmathsville, MO. She was the daughter of George Cordell and Manie Lee Anders Aldridge.
She married Glen Garrison on March 12, 1927 at Memphis, MO.
She is survived by five children, Goldie Marie and husband, William Purvis of Council Bluffs, IA, Harold and wife, Wanda Lee Garrison of Wyaconda, MO, Irene Hyde of Arbela, MO, Darlene Steeples of Memphis, MO, Enid Brookhart and husband, Jerry of Arbela, MO; an ex-son-in-law, Audrie Steeples of Granger, MO; 13 grandchildren, Marcia Carol Purvis and Wilma Biddensatdt of Council Bluffs, IA, Darwin Purvis and wife, Regina of Oakland, NE, Gary Leon Hyde of Bloomfield, IA, LaNell Hyde and Sean Waibel of Memphis, MO, Micheal Steeples and wife, Lynne of Memphis, MO, Stephanie Duncan and husband, Randy of Downing, MO, Crystal Smith and husband, David of Memphis, MO, Marion Steeples and wife, Terri of Bloomfield, IA, Anita Cline and husband, Todd of Downing, MO, Angela Steeples of Downing, MO, April Brookhart of Arbela, MO, Sherry Brookhart and financee, Jeff Campbell of Cedar Rapids, IA; 16 great-grandchildren, Rebecca West, Darius and Cherie Biddensatdt, Issac and Danielle Purvis, Ti Waibel, Tasha Glover, Mekenzie Steeples, Nicki and Eric Duncan, Jason Shelton, Kaylene Smith, Naomi and Megan Buford, Darick and Rebecca Cline; two sisters-in-law, Hazel Aldridge and Ruth Aldridge; and nieces, nephews and numerous relatives.
Beckie was preceded in death by her parents, George and Manie Aldridge; husband, Glen Garrison in 1981; an infant daughter, Glenna Anne; daughter-in-law, Helen Garrison; son-in-law, Gary Hyde; five brothers, Frankie, Vernie, Elmer, George and Walter; five sisters, Ethel Garrison, Bessie Overfield, Mrytle Broadwell, Lizzie Rude and Manie Clark.
Beckie was a member of the Coffey Christian Church since the age of 18. She loved to garden and quilt. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who had time for games and to make each child their own special treats. She was known as "Grandma Grarrison" by all the neighbor-hood children.
Services were held at the Norman Funeral Home in Downing, MO on October 17, 2001 with Larry Smith, pastor of the Downing Christian Church officiating. Pallbearers were Gary Leon Hyde, Marion Steeples, David Smith, Michael Steeples, Todd Cline and Randy Duncan. Honorary pallbearers were Darwin Purvis, Jeff Campbell, Sean Waibel and Jason Shelton. Burial was in the Coffey Cemetery, southeast of Downing, MO. A memorial has been established for the Coffey Cemetery. Norman Funeral Home of Downing, MO was in charge of arrangements.
