Robert Elbert Zierden, 60, of Borrego Springs, CA, died July 7, 2001, in Borrego Springs.

He was born July 4, 1941 to Henry Robert and Edith Faye Crawford Zierden at Chicago, IL.

He received his education in Chicago, IL graduating from Lane Tech High School. He served with the U.S. Marines during the Vietnam War from 1958 to 1974. Robert was a field radio operator and was decorated with the Expert Rifle Badge and Good Conduct Medal. At the time of his death he was employed with the Water and Sewer Department for the community of Borrego Springs as supervisor.

Robert was known for his sense of humor and he enjoyed old cars. He took pride in a 1976 Thunderbird.

He was preceded in death by his father and two uncles, William Frank Crawford and Earl Thomas Crawford.

Survivors include his mother, Edith Gordon and her husband, Robert of Mesa, AZ; three sons, John, Scott and Ken, who live in Arizona and California; one sister, Dorothy J. Guarine of Streamwood, IL; three aunts, Nellie Lowder of Avalon, CA, Lucille Winkleman of Memphis, MO, and Mary Belle Moffett of Memphis, MO; and one uncle, Sam Crawford and wife, Iva Lee of Memphis, MO; and several cousins.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, August 25, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. in the Memphis Cemetery, McIntire Addition, Memphis, MO, with Ron Henkenius officiating. Memphis Funeral Home, Memphis, MO is in charge of arrangements.
