DENNIS O."DENNIE" SMALL, JR. (8/01/1939 - 7/27/2001)
Dennis O. "Dennie" Small, Jr., 61, of Edina, MO, passed away July 27, 2001, at his residence near Edina, MO.
Dennie was born August 1, 1939, in Kirksville, MO, the son of Dennis O. Small, Sr. and Leona Sanders Small.
He was raised in the Greensburg area and attended the Myers Rural School, north of Greensburg, MO. Dennie graduated from Scotland County High School in 1957. After graduation he farmed until he moved to Edina, MO, 23 years ago. He owned and operated the Crosspointe Residential Care Facility in Edina, MO for the past 30 years. He enjoyed hunting until his health declined.
Dennie was a lifelong member of the Greensburg Masonic Lodge #414 A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite of Freemasonry Valley of Columbia, MO and the St. Joseph Moila Shrine Temple. He served his country in the United States Army.
On March 3, 1957, in Memphis, MO, he married Helen Westhoff and to this union two children were born, Tony and Terri Small. On June 15, 1973, in Kirksville, MO he married Ina Marie Brogan and she preceded him in death on May 25, 1998.
Dennie is survived by his mother, Leona Small of Bedford, IA; a son, Tony Small of Rutledge, MO; two brothers, Donnie and his wife, Vada Small of Rutledge, MO and Kermit and his wife, Karen Small of Baring, MO; a sister, Jeanette and her husband, Otis Purdew of Bedford, IA; and two grandchildren, Tenneille Small and Brooks Small, both of Memphis, MO; and several nieces and nephews.
Dennie was preceded in death by his father, Dennis O. Small, Sr. on April 26, 1987, and his daughter, Terri Small on November 30, 1980.
Funeral services were held July 30, 2001, at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO. Reverend Ernest Deatrick officiated. A Masonic Service was held July 29, 2001 at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO. Burial was in the Bethel Cemetery, northwest of Rutledge, MO. Casket bearers were Jim Hamlin, Frank Hamlin, George Gerth, Tom Ghnouly, Darrell York and Jerry Hardman.
