EVERETT D."DUTCH" FENDER (2/24/1903 - 7/11/2001)
Everett D. "Dutch" Fender, 98, of Memphis, MO, passed away July 11, 2001, at the Scotland County Care Center, Memphis, MO.
Dutch was born February 24, 1903, in Aledo, IL, the son of Lewis and Sophia Fender.
He moved to rural Memphis, MO at the age of 11.
He married Dorthea Northrup on September 25, 1926. They had one son, Tom.
Dutch was a member of the First Christian Church, Memphis, MO, where he served as a deacon in excess of 50 years. He was a member of the Memphis Masonic Lodge #16 A.F. & A.M. and received his 50 year membership pin more than ten years ago.
Dutch worked for Hopkins Lumber for 40 years. The last ten years of his association with Hopkins Lumber was as part owner. He retired from the lumber business in 1979. After retiring, Dutch spent much of his time going to the farm helping his son, Tom with the planting and harvesting and building the best "little barn" in the county. Most of all, Dutch enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorthea; one brother, Chet Fender; one sister, Evelyn Cone; and two nephews.
Surviving are his son, Tom Fender and his wife, Pat of Memphis, MO; four grandchildren, Tim Fender and his wife, Mona of Edina, MO, Chris Fender and his wife, Karen of Ames, IA, Melanie Similien and her husband, Jeffrey of Columbia, MO, Jenny Mallett and her husband, Curtis of Memphis, MO; three great-grandchildren, Dawndee and Tyler Fender of Edina, MO and John Everett Fender of Ames, IA and several nieces and nephews and friends.
The family has suggested memorials to The First Christian Church, Memphis, MO.
Funeral services were held July 14, 2001 at the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO with Bro. Jack Sumption officiating. Organist was Ann Luther and vocalists were Jeffrey Similien and Lori Fulk. Body bearers were Tim Fender, Chris Fender, Curtis Mallett, Kenny Monroe, Joe Fulk and Jack Dannenhauer. Interment was in the Memphis Cemetery, Memphis, MO.
