MARY EDITH DUNN (10/03/1911 - 7/08/2001)

MARY EDITH DUNN Mary Edith Witte Dunn, 89, of Memphis, MO, passed away July 8, 2001, at the Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Memphis, MO.

The daughter of John E. and Cecelia (Driscoll) Witte, she was born October 3, 1911, in Danville, IA.

On July 25, 1936, she was united in marriage by Ralph M.G. Smith to Floyd (Jack) Dunn, in the parsonage in Kirksville, MO. Floyd preceded her in death on February 17, 2001.

Also preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers, John E. Witte, Jr. and wife, Pauline and Roy Witte and wife, Betty.

She is survived by two sons, C.D. Dunn and wife, Betty of San Angelo, TX and Jack Dunn of Memphis, TN; two sisters, Nellie Hedberg of Rockford, IL and Ida Myers of Rutledge, MO; five grandchildren, Brian, Mike and Lori Dunn and Jackie Roberts of Texas and Jeff Dunn and wife, Hollie of North Carolina; two step-granddaughters of Tennes-see; several great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

When Mary was in the fourth grade, the family moved to a farm at Baring, MO. She attended high school in Kirksville, MO and graduated from the Edina High School with the Class of 1929. After attending college at Kirksville State Teacher's College (now Truman State University), she taught school in Knox and Scotland Counties for seven years. Mary and Floyd lived in the same house at the farm at Bible Grove for 44 years before moving to Memphis in 1980. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 1996.

Mary was a member of the Colony Chapter #543, O.E.S. (formerly Greensburg Chapter) for 60 years. She was also president of the Ladies State Soil and Water Conservation.

Funeral services were held July 10, 2001 at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel, Kirksville, MO with Reverend Richard Woods officiating. Music was provided by Hollie Dunn. An Eastern Star Service was held at the start of the funeral service, conducted by the Colony Chapter #543, O.E.S. Burial was in the Good Shepherd Mausoleum in Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville, MO. Pallbearers were Brian Dunn, Mike Dunn, Jeff Dunn, Mike Myers, Max Myers and Charles Myers.
