RUSSELL BAXTER (8/29/1920 - 7/08/2001)
Russell Baxter, 80, of Greentop, MO passed away July 8, 2001 at the Boone Medical Center in Columbia, MO.
The son of David Emery and Eunice Eudora (Nicholson) Baxter, he was born August 29, 1920, in Schuyler County, MO, near Downing, MO.
On April 14, 1946, he married Wilma Lee Jackson of Downing, MO.
He is survived by his wife, Wilma Lee; one son and his wife, Jaye and Kathy Baxter of Greentop, MO; one daughter and her husband, Janice and Don McDonald of Liberty, MO; one granddaughter and her husband, Jodee and David Bailey of Springfield, MO; one grandson, David McDonald of Liberty, MO; one step-grandson and his wife, Anthony and Wendy Gale of Copperas Cove, TX; one great-granddaughter, Kathryn Gale; one brother and his wife, Willard and Mary Baxter of Downing, MO, and their children, Jim Baxter of Downing, MO and Mrs. (Lecen) Donna Bryn of Greentop, MO; other nieces and nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Loyd.
Russell graduated from the Downing High School, Downing, MO, with the class of 1938. He served in the United States Army from July 1942 through December 1945. He then returned to the area and farmed the land he loved until the time of his death. He, in recent years, attended the Downing Christian Church but was a member of the Coffey Christian Church. He was also a member of the VFW Post #4958 in Memphis, MO.
His special treasures were members of his family and he also cherished his many friends. He took much pleasure in helping his friends and neighbors.
Funeral services were held July 11, 2001 at the Downing Christian Church with Larry Smith, pastor of the Downing Christian Church officiating. He was assisted by Sam Martin, pastor of the Downing Baptist Church. Music was provided by organist, Betty Anderson and soloist, David Bailey. Pallbearers were Bob Kelsey, John McChurg, Ronnie Martin, Mark Starbuck, Charles Kethe and Edwin Jackson. Honorary pallbearers were representatives from the Dialysis Clinic Incorporated in Kirksville, MO. Burial was in the Coffey Cemetery, south of Downing, MO. Norman Funeral Home in Downing, MO was in charge of arrangements.
