Bible Grove Kicks Off Community Summer Festivals August 17-19
It's that time of year again, the time when the communities of Scotland County and the surrounding areas begin to host the end-of-summer celebrations.
Bible Grove will get the jump on the rest of the events by hosting the 11th Annual Celebration by the Bible Grove Historical Preservation Com-mittee August 17-19.
The festivities start Friday night, August 17 at 7:00 p.m. A pie- and cakewalk will be held and visitors can play bingo. An ice cream social will also be held and the museum and antique room will be open throughout the weekend. Two drawings for $25 cash prizes will be held at 9:00 p.m. along with drawings for other prizes.
Saturday, August 18 will be an all-day event starting with kettle beans and corn bread for lunch. The bingo tent will also open at noon. The Indian Creek Muzzleloaders will hold a black powder shoot at 1:00 p.m., the same time the annual trap shoot is slotted to begin.
A horseshoe pitching contest will get underway at 4:00 p.m with the public invited to participate.
The hog roast supper starts at 6:00 p.m. The meal will cost $5 per person (those five and under eat for $2.50).
The band Silverado will begin playing at 8:00 p.m. when the dance starts. The committee will kick off the event by giving away a $100 bill to one lucky guest.
The giveaways will continue at 9:00 p.m. with two more $25 awards to be given away with other prize drawings.
Sunday's activities will start with an 11:00 a.m. church service under the oak tree at the Bible Grove School. A carry-in dinner will follow at noon with all guests asked to bring a covered dish and table service.
The trail ride will kick-off at 2:00 p.m. with the annual horse give away. The riders will depart from Bar-B-Saddle Club at 2:00 p.m.
The committee reminds everyone to bring their lawn chairs, their appetites and come to Bible Grove for a good time.
Anyone interested in displaying memorabilia in the antique room or the museum should contact Dave McRoberts at 883-5631.
